Presented here are 9 transcriptions and 1 original piece which serve to reveal the banjo's potential as a "classical" instrument. More specifically, the transcriptions are from the renaissance and baroque periods with the original piece (October Court) being written with a definite renaissance flavor. With its timbre being similar to that of the lute and the harpsichord, the banjo is well suited for music of these periods. The pieces are arranged according to their level of difficulty. The shorter, less demanding pieces are presented first with the more involved pieces following them. All selections appear in tablature as well as standard notation. It should be realized that fingering is a fairly subjective endeavor. There is often more than one way to play a given passage. I encourage you to explore all possibilities to arrive at the most comfortable fingering.
