John Bullard John Bullard has attracted international attention for his work in developing and transcribing classical repertoire for the five-string banjo. A Dargason Music recording artist, his compact disc recording "John Bullard - The Classical Banjo" showcases his virtuoso playing. He was the focus of a cover story and interview in the May, 1993 issue of Banjo Newsletter. Press reviews describe his playing as ". . .technically demanding. . . " and ". . captivating instrumental music."

Bullard was on the 1992 faculty of the world-renowned Tennessee Banjo Institute, along with luminaries in the music world such as Pete Seeger and Bela Fleck. He has performed throughout the United States and has been featured on numerous radio and television programs. His involvement in Bluegrass music includes work with New Appalachian Express, Virginia Rail, The Virginia Bluegrass Band, and many others.

John's performances typically feature his classical transcriptions while including ragtime, Celtic, folk, and even familiar Beatles tunes!
From solo recitals to ensemble work, John appears frequently in duo with one of two renowned guitarists.
John Patykula is the head of the Guitar Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, which is one of the largest in the nation. An accomplished performer, he has appeared throughout the United States in and in Italy, making his New York debut at Carnegie Hall in 1987. John was a student of guitar virtuoso Jesus Silva for over 20 years. He has performed in masterclasses conducted by Andrés Segovia and John Williams. A 1973 graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, he also established the guitar program at Wake Forest University.

Phillip Mathieu PhilipMathieu, a versatile and accomplished musician, moves easily between the worlds of classical and popular music. His performances range from solo classical guitar recitals and chamber ensemble recitals, to Leading his own jazz trio, showcasing his unique arrangements and musical interpretations. Mr. Mathieu is a native Washingtonian and a graduate of George Mason University, where he studied with Jeffrey Meyerriecks and received a Bachelor of Music degree in guitar performance. He also studied at American University with John Marlow.
